5 Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Man’s Style

As we celebrate our new Men’s collection, we’ve been inspired by the long overdue conversation: the lack of options and range for men’s fashion. We’ll be giving you tips and advice on how to level up your gentleman’s look.

Men’s style in the past five years seems to be on a decline, especially for average apparel consumers. Recent apparel collections have been limiting and repetitive, leaving average male shoppers in a tough spot. Yet, it doesn’t have to be as difficult as it seems. Especially for your man, because he has you! If your partner has been looking to upgrade his personal style, we’ll be giving you five noteworthy tips on how to spice up his look.

 #1: Don’t change, elevate!

Your partner isn’t looking for you to come in and wipe away their entire identity but to upgrade him (…like Beyonce). Take his current style and level it up by incorporating new textures, shapes, and even colors. To do this, you must gather a true understanding of your partner’s style. Once you gather his favorite pieces, if there’s a particular fabric or fit he enjoys, encourage it in a new color, texture, or silhouette. There’s a wide range of styles in many pieces we already love. The first key to elevating his style is to take his favorite pieces and multiply them.

#2: Flip it or toss it!

We all hold onto items, whether they have sentimental value or not. Subconsciously, this is the very reason why we don’t continuously rotate our closets, leaving us with pieces that make us feel icky the older they get. Men have more of a tendency to hold onto one item longer than women do and are more prone to a simple wardrobe. However, we evolve every day so there’s a chance his wardrobe may not be accurately reflecting him anymore. How do we solve this problem? If you’re into sewing, upcycling, or reconstructing old pieces, it could potentially be a fun opportunity for bonding and quality time. Want the easier route? Consider donating your wardrobe to Goodwill or selling your pieces on apps like Mercari, Poshmark, or Depop. Releasing what no longer serves you will attract more abundance, or in other words, better outfits!

 #3: Experiment with versatility.

Start with the basics and slowly incorporate personalized pieces. As mentioned earlier, most men prefer a limited fit, style, and color scheme that caters to their natural masculinity. Yet, true fashion involves mixing textures, silhouettes, and colors to tell a story. The best part is that there’s no right or wrong and the perfect outfit is based solely on what’s comfortable for you. While most men prefer a more simplified lifestyle, most women love variety, thus balancing the feminine and masculine energy. Introduce some of that variety into his wardrobe by encouraging range and playfulness. The best way to do this is by experimenting with new types of fabrics, styles, and shapes. Taking basic pieces from his closet and pairing it with something he’d least expect could open up a whole new world of style to his eye.

#4: Take inspo.

Content creators Wisdom Kaye, Jalen Gunter, Liam Gallagher, Gaiussokami, and Ooreofe Oluwadara are great examples of men with versatile and elevated wardrobes. Introduce stylish friends or coworkers into your life (or your feed). Surrounding your circle with people who are stylish and fashionable, encourages you to become inspired to take similar risks and go to greater lengths for your outfits. If you or your partner see a style or fit you think he'd pull off well, encourage him to act off that inspiration and make it his own! On social media, luxury brands can be heavily promoted. However, remind him that there are a wide variety of brands and retailers to shop in order to obtain the look he wants. Reassure him to shop for the best quality within his budget!

#5: Take his lifestyle into consideration, and style accordingly.

Last but not least, while you can combine versatility and inspiration, assist him in identifying what his style is. Your career most likely takes up 60% of your wardrobe. So while he may be attracted to a certain aesthetic, be sure that it will align with his everyday lifestyle. The key to building the perfect wardrobe is knowing your likes and dislikes. Some men are so versatile, that their looks could range from CEO to pro-baller. However, most only prioritize the necessities for work, school, and their active lifestyle. While you’re helping him find inspo and experiment with new styles, remember to ensure it won’t hinder his current daily routine.

Fashion is the expression of feminine creative energy, as the art of dressing brings out our true emotions and artistic layers. Elevating your partner’s style could be an expression of love, especially if your love language includes acts of service! While you two embark on this journey to take his style to the next level, remember to have fun and take this as an opportunity to learn more about each other.
